1999 Grand Union Canal

May 1999 and colleagues raise their eyebrows as we declare our intention to go on holiday in our home town, Leighton Buzzard. “Are you mad?” Well, no, not really. Our friends, Keith and Marlene Stillman from Richmond, Virginia, had arranged a trip on the Grand Union Canal (through The Wyvern Shipping Co. Ltd.) and very kindly invited us to join them. They’d need some help with all those locks, right, so we just HAD to go. The weather was somewhat unkind with only one day without rain – even a hail storm thrown in for good measure – but we all had a terrific time consuming alcohol and floating along at less than walking pace.
