Dragonflies

While chasing my old love, butterflies, with a camera at my local Sandhouse Lane Nature Reserve, I noticed dragonflies and damselflies (Odonata) over and around the lake. I watched their feeding and mating habits and soon became thoroughly hooked. When possible, I try to capture (photographically) males and female specmens together with any mating formations. The catalogue has grown to the point where I decided to separate our true dragonflies (Anisoptera) from our damselflies (Zygoptera).

Below is our catalogue of dragonfly sightings thus far.

Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum)
Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum)
Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii)
Southern Darter (Sympetrum meridionale)

Black-tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum)
Broad-bodied Chaser (Libellula depressa)
Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata)
Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator)
