Platycnemis latipes (White Featherleg)

Another new one from France, 2011, that I didn’t at first realize we were seeing. I was guilty of assuming they were P. pennipes; these are much paler, though, and the very broad tibia are distinctive when you know what you’re looking for.

Id Notes

  • distinctive double antehumeral stripes
  • legs white with very limited black markings
  • very broad, flat tibia particularly on hind leg
  • paired small dark dots down dorsal side of S2-5
  • S7-9 with heavier dark markings on dorsal side
  • ♂ – porcelain white body (creamy with the palest of blue tinges
  • ♀ – white body with a very slight orange blush
