Gomphus vulgatissimus (Club-tailed Dragonfly/Common Clubtail)

This is the only Clubtail to occur in Britain, where the river Thames is a hotspot. Our first meeting was in France, though, on the banks of Le Loir.

Id Notes

  • A Gomphid so the eyes don’t meet
  • Immature males are yellow-coloured but turn pale green with age
  • Black legs
  • Antehumeral stripe narrower than adjoining black stripes (either side)
