Calopteryx splendens (Banded Demoiselle)

The so-called riverside butterfly, I think becasue of the fluttering appearance caused by the outer dark wing patches of the males as they fly.

Id Notes

  • ♂ – metallic blue body
  • ♂ – dark blue band of variable size across outer half of both hind- and fore-wings
  • ♀ – metallic green body
  • ♀ – clear wings, faintly greenish in appearance, with white pseudo-pterostigma
